World Record In Vaping

It's a great time for vaping in the UK! According to a recent report from anti-smoking charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), the number of vapers in the UK has risen from 800,000 in 2012 to over 4.2 million today. This means that about 8.3% of adults in the UK now use e-cigarettes.

The biggest increase in vapers came from "dual-users," or people who both smoke and vape. This shows an increase of around 400,000 people since 2021! The main reason people use e-cigarettes is as a tool to quit smoking, and these dual-users are already on the path to improving their health. A study in the US found that around 28% of dual-users, who had no intention of quitting, naturally transitioned to using only an e-cigarette.

This increase could be due in part to the government's focus on promoting e-cigarette use. In a recent report by charity executive Javed Khan, he outlined suggestions for making the UK smoke-free by 2030, including allocating £125 million to stop smoking services. The ASH report found that 57% of vapers surveyed used vaping to completely quit smoking. This number could be even higher if the government adopts Javed Khan's suggestions and helps stop smoking services promote vaping as a safer alternative to smoking.

However, the ASH report also revealed some concerns. The biggest reason smokers don't switch to vaping is the fear of swapping one addiction for another. This highlights the need for more education on the relative safety of vaping compared to smoking, as studies have shown that vaping is 95% healthier than smoking. Additionally, the report found that 47% of current smokers have tried vaping but returned to smoking, with most saying that vaping was not as satisfying as smoking. This highlights the need for better support and guidance for smokers attempting to quit with an e-cigarette.

Overall, the ASH report shows that the number of vapers in the UK is on the rise and bringing the government's goal of a smoke-free UK by 2030 closer to reality. However, it also highlights the need for better education and support for smokers looking to quit with an e-cigarette. If you know someone who could benefit from quitting smoking, consider showing them our starter kits and supporting them in their journey. Studies have shown that quitting smoking is more successful with the support of family and friends.
